Action plan for enhancement of genetic health in dogs – proposed by FCI and other international stakeholders at the Dog Health Workshop

An international action plan for increased health and well-being in pedigree dogs have been compiled in collaboration between FCI and other cynological organisations, geneticists, veterinarians and welfare organisations.

A high number of members of the dog lovers community has reported to the FCI offices to have been deeply shaken by the recent passage of anti-gay laws in Russia and by their enforcement during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Discovered: the Ridgeback

A dog with a ridge of fur along its back and webbed paws is the phenomenon of Phu Quôc, a small island in the southwest of Vietnam. Endowed with unusual abilities, this quadruped has, however, almost disappeared.

On July 20th, 2013 the Polish media reported a case of animal abuse involving a breeder registered with the Polish national organisation (ZKwP).

Our two traditional international dog shows, “BELYE NOCHI-2013-1” (WHITE NIGHTS-2013-1) and “BELYE NOCHI-2013-2 (WHITE NIGHTS-2013-2) - The CUP of the PRESIDENT of RKF-2013” were held on 29-30 June in Saint Petersburg, during the well-known white nights.

On August 8^th, 2013 the FCI General Committee has questioned its Russian member (the Russian Kynological Federation) about a case of serious mistreatment by a Russian exhibitor reported to have taken place at a dog show in Lithuania.

Most common dental problems in puppies

At the age of seven to eight months latest a puppy should have a full set of a total of 42 permanent teeth. Since not all changes in dentition go smoothly, this should be checked out by a veterinarian at the age of 4 to 6 months to make sure that there are no problems.

Recent campaigns on social media platforms and in media regarding a CACT competition held in Ukraine have again brought into light the question of cruelty towards animals.

Doglebrities : Dogs of pop culture

Whether real-life or fictional, whether we fall for them or are fearful of them, these dogs all have a great character and each is remarkable in its own way.

With a new record of almost 1600 dogs entered, the eagerly-awaited FCI Americas and the Caribbean Section Show was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, thus adding two International Shows and the "FCA 50th Anniversary" Show held from 18th to 21st July, to the circuit.

DAUBENTON, BUFFON’s collaborator to whom we owe the introduction of merinos sheep in France in 1776, published Instructions pour les bergers et les conducteurs de troupeaux (Instructions for shepherds and drovers).

The summer season means “show season”, and the Norwegian Kennel Club hosted two successful international shows during the unusually warm Norwegian summer.

IRA Ludwigshafen

Caribbean weather conditions, record entry levels for the dogs and a drastic drop in spectator numbers. The VDH Rhineland-Palatinate kennel club had a lot to cope with in the context of this year's IRA, the International Dog Show.

This year the championship brought us to Germany, the peninsular Pouch, near Bitterfeld. Only a few days before big parts of this area had been flooded. Luckily the grounds for the lure coursing event were not affected.
